I consider the double lift as one of the most vital methods to learn in order to master your Card tricks. The double lift is used to show the top 2 cards as one card. The spectators will think you are only lifting one card
How the Double Lift is performed
Hold the deck face down in a mechanics grip. Using your thumb, acquire a small break below the top two cards. Then lift up the two cards as you normally do and show the audience the bottom of the two cards. This card is usually the card they selected and what they don't know is that on top of the card they selected is another card. There are a few different methods to do this with, check out the video below on some of these methods. It's important that you lift and show the cards the same way you would regularly so you don't give away that you are doing something different. Spectators will pick up on the "out of ordinary" moves. After showing, place cards back on deck.
You can use this method to perform great tricks like the ambitious card routine. Basically because they think the card shown is their's you can show them the card, then place it on top of the deck. And from there, move the top "dummy" card to somewhere in the deck. The spectators now think you took their card and moved it into the deck. Flip over the top card now and it's their card! Great simple card trick.
